: This is correct but narrower than the original, in that "interpeller" primarily connotes a verbal challenge (questioning someone, etc.). In English, "challenge" isn't primarily verbal/oral. It could be anything.

: In the English original there's no suggestion that they're talking to their customers at all, or listening to what their customers are saying about their lives. It's about how the customers live (their habits, etc.). It's not about words.
