Discussion

Additional text Thanks to all. Here is another example, from a psychologist's report on a 33 year old woman. Literal options sound odd to me in English, I'm just wondering if there's a different solution: Es importante agregar que existe demasiado daño al proyecto de vida porque que los evento traumatogenicos que describe son obstáculos para el desarrollo y una afectación psicológica y mental y emocional importante, la obligan lidiar con temas y situaciones para la cual no está capacitada.

I tend to agree with your comment: in these contexts the usual literal translations of "proyecto de vida" sound a bit odd, and I think it might be better to try something else. I have the feeling that it is not something as grand and specific as a life plan (or whatever). Since the general sense is plans or expectations for one's future, I think "prospects" might work. You could put "prospects in life" if you like, at least in some of the instances.

Thank you, Muriel!
agree Chema Nieto Castañón : That is perfect; the original does indeed convey the idea of expectations, prospects (in life), more so than a specific life plan.

Thanks very much, Chema ;-)

agree Lydianette Soza : Prospects: The possibility of being successful, especially at work She's hoping the course will improve her career prospects. Prospects of/for (= Opportunities for) employment remain bleak for most people in the area.

Many thanks, Lydianette :-) Yes, "prospects" would cover that meaning as well as personal plans or aspirations
agree Robert Forstag : “Life goals” would be a good translation in many other contexts, but “prospects” clearly seems to be the intended meaning here.

Thank you, Robert! That's how I see it too.
