English term

radioactivity unaccounted for (B)

English to Serbian Tech/Engineering Environment & Ecology eco-toxicological properties
Radiochem. meas. : Radioactivity unaccounted for (B): 26.7%; Maximum level of biodegradation (% Deg + B) = 43.5%

Discussion

Daryo Apr 11, 2019:
The part of the total radioactivity that is labeled "unaccounted" is the part of the total radioactivity for which the origins are unknown.

The part of the total radioactivity that is "explained" would be referred to as "accounted".

That's the bog standard meaning of "unaccounted for" as most often used I.e.when it has nothing to do with accounting/bookkeeping.

Based on one example that is about making an inventory of radioactive materials you extrapolated the same translation to a study trying to explain the components/origins of some radiation.

You may walk in a storage of radioactive materials and make the inventory and discover that something is missing (="unaccounted for" in the most literal sense), but I would be very interested to know in what kind of warehouse you would store radioactivity?

I very much doubt that making a literal inventory of "radioactivity" makes any more sense in Serbian than in English.

Hvala, ali mislim da ta radioaktivnost nije „neobjašnjena“ – naprotiv, vrlo dobro je objašnjena: „radioactivity in this case is the radioactivity that comes from the soil naturally”, a da se želi reći da to nije uključeno, uračunato, uzeto u obzir ili nešto tome slično u „study equals (=) the percentage shown“, tj. konkretno u tih 26,7% maksimalnog nivoa biorazgradnje.
Daryo Apr 5, 2019:
Thanks for the additional context. It confirms that "not accounted for" is used in its bog standard meaning, that would be the same if it was about anything else.
Natasa Stankovic (asker) Apr 4, 2019:
U međuvremenu sam dobila i ovo objašnjenje od klijenta:

ECHA REACH Dossier entry for CAS 847842-48-2 that represents the testing for Biodegradation in soil. This is a result of a test for the Biodegradation in different types of Soils (Clay Sand and Silt). The Radioactivity in this case is the radioactivity that comes from the soil naturally. The Phrase “Radioactivity unaccounted for (B):” is the definition of the formula at the end of the phrase “(% Deg + B) =” or that the “Percent of dedgerdation plus (+) the Radioactivity that is not accounted for in the study equals (=) the percentage shown.”

Molim za pomoć – ako neko možda zna stručan prevod (u datom kontekstu) na srpski/hrvatski/bošnjački/crnogorski/...

Predlog, iako nisam stručan za ovu oblast.

Peer comment(s):

neutral Daryo : that would be one way of translating it - works fine when it's literally about "accounting" as in "accounting / материјално рачуноводство залиха" but "accounted for" most of the time is not about "accounting/bookkeeping"

English term (edited): [Radioactivity that is] not accounted for [in the study]

необјашњена радиоактивност

Radioactivity that is not accounted for in the study
=
Радиоактивност (део радиоактивности) која није објашњена (који није објашњен) у студији

s.t./s.o. is "not accounted for" = није на броју / не зна се где је / не зна се где су / недостаје /

у овом конкретном тексту: део радиоактивности за који недостаје објашњене / није утврђено порекло у студији.

Сасвим уобичајено значење, примери:
