Italian term

quanto di più distante dalla realtà

Italian to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature Critical analysis of clas
This essay is about the reception of the works by a poet who glorified war and dying for one's country. This paragraph has earlier explained how this poet is traditionally seen as an inciter of going to battle during ancient wars.

I am unsure what this phrase connects to, and how it leads to the ending about Spartans against Messeni. Can it begin a new sentence? as I have not managed to break this paragraph up, as I normally do for these long passages .

My take.

agree JohnMcDove : Yes. I would not begin a new sentence. But I guess it's possible. :-)

however further away from the reality of his commitment

... that is, for freedom, however further away from the reality of his commitment to a war of conquest such as that of the Spartans against the Messenians.

Another option.

This could not be further from the truth

I agree that the sentence needs to be broken up. I suggest: "This could not be further from the truth: he was wholly committed to the Spartans' war of conquest against the Messenians."

,about as far as you can get from the reality

The "quanto di più" here just acts as a superlative, nothing more. I posted because I wanted to point this out. You could merge it with parts of other posts, such as "as far removed from the reality" or "as far from the truth" or simply "as distant from the reality".
As for breaking this sentence very long sentence up, which it needs in English, I think there are probably better places to make the break or breaks.
