English term

who has advised that they are or have been previously known as:

English to Spanish Law/Patents Certificates, Diplomas, Licenses, CVs Criminal Records Check
Hi,

I am translating a national police certificate in which the phrase "who has advised that they are or have been previously known as" is a bit confusing to me.
The sentence appears after the name of the person and before another name. I assume the person was previously known as the name provided thereafter, and that "they are" refers to the "no disclosable court outcomes" mentioned before the names. It is confusing because if the document states there are no outcomes, how can then say that "they" were previously known under another name?

If someone can clarify the phrase a little or confirm my assumptions, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Gilda

quien ha informado que se le conoce o previamente se le ha conocido como

Si el titular del documento es hombre, "... se lo conoce o previamente se lo ha conocido como ..."; si es mujer, "... se la conoce o previamente se la ha conocido como ...".

Y sí, "they" se refiere a la persona.

Es probable que they esté usado como singular neutro. Estoy convencida de que no se refiere a outcomes ya que la frase típica es "This is to certify that there are no disclosable court outcomes recorded against the name of : Jane Doe who has advised that they are or have previously been known as Jane Smith". Puede referirse, por ejemplo, al apellido de soltera y de casada.
