For glossary building purposes, I think it'd be great if you entered the term you think fits best considering the context or add two options by using slashes. Sadly, not many people look at the d-box later (in my experience, at least).

Also, as a note to future askers, I should add that it can get really complicated once Einweg bottles are put into those Mehrweg plastic crates. Cf.

As an aside, three days ago, several d-box posts kept disappearing and reappearing on my end too, so there was just something wrong with KudoZ.

Going to add one last tidbit, if I may, since I not only thought the EW/MW issue was an interesting topic, but I also found that my explanation below was in line with an EPA document published as early as 1975: https://bit.ly/2DfaHsN [had to shorten the URL because it's excruciatingly long]

See the first Q&A there. In my humble opinion, this confirms that it'd be better not to use (non-)returnable because it clearly says containers may be returned to be refilled or to recycle the materials (almost exactly what I said at 23:28 on Nov., 18).

Short anecdote: Part of this family used to work at a US base in Germany. One of the funniest things to watch on TV back then was the ad explaining German rules on recycling.

What I'm trying to say is that you probably won't find much about it in regard to the States, but you probably know that yourself. There is this: "Oregon has a ten cent bottle deposit, and that will apply to both single-use and refillable bottles."

Mehrweg bottles are simply cleaned (but very thoroughly) and reused. Einweg may be recycled and the materials reused.

Also, if you don't already know this, some PET bottles are Mehrweg, so I wouldn't use PET as a synonym.

I guess multiple use could work, though I see this more in other areas; multi-use is not common, IMO. This here could be what you're looking for:

So would "single-use and reusable packaging" or " single-use and multi-use packaging" or even "disposable and reusable packaging" be good choices? I didn't find as many hints for "multi-use".

"Das Verpackungsgesetz löst seit 1. Januar 2019 die bisherige Verpackungsverordnung ab. Adressaten sind wie bisher in erster Linie die Inverkehrbringer verpackter Waren."

This seems to be about beverages only. Part of the law reads: "Letztvertreiber von mit Getränken befüllten Einweggetränkeverpackungen...sind verpflichtet...darauf hinzuweisen, dass diese Verpackungen nach der Rückgabe nicht wiederverwendet werden."

Since you need to pay a deposit of 8, 15 or 25 cents on many bottles in Germany, I think refillable might even be an option. Most of them are going to be returned one way or another: https://deutsche-recycling.de/verpackungsgesetz/

And yes, I feel the same way: reusable/multi-use vs disposable/single use sounds more appropriate to me for my context, since the below context clearly shows that it has to do with "Produkten oder Gebinden" and the Principal in the contract is a company producing beverages.

I'd favor reusable over returnable, as, e.g., bottles will be returned anyway, but this is, of course, not true for all items companies need to transport.
