German term

nicht geschlechtsidentischen Hintergrundes

German to English Medical Medical (general) Clinical study - Osteopathy
I am translating a clinical study on Osteopathy, involving a number of female patients, ages 12 to 53, receiving osteopathic manipulations (treatment) by two male Osteopaths.

One phrase is giving me trouble, the full sentence reads: "Lediglich von internen vaginalen und rektalen Behandlungen wurde Abstand genommen aufgrund des nicht geschlechtsidentischen Hintergrundes der beiden männlichen Osteopathen gegenüber den teilweise minderjährigen Studienteilnehmerinnen."

I understand well the intention of the sentence, but I'm thinking that there is no proper, literal translation in English of the phrase "nicht geschlechtsidentischen Hintergrundes". I have attempted to reword this particular phrase into a different, yet similar concept:

"Only internal vaginal and rectal treatments were abstained from, as a measure of sensitivity to the number of female study participants who were minors and receiving treatment from two male Osteopaths."

I welcome opinions on whether this translation would work, or any suggestions for improvement. Thank you!

Yours is okay. Keep up the good work.

Jessica, I really like your own suggestion! You might fall back on 'gender identity', but I guess this would not improve matters at all.

just this:
… to the female participants, some of whom were minors,....

(I think that the adult ones might be embarrassed, too.)

osteopaths were of the opposite sex

No vaginal and rectal treatments were carried out in this study since the participants were all female including minors and the two osteopaths were of the opposite sex
