German term

Handschlagbiber

German to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering Roof tiles
The subject of the text is roof tiles predominantly for historic/listed buildings. "Biber" in this case refers to plain or beaver-tail tiles, but I am unsure about the meaning of this word. The sentence in question reads:

"Ob Segmentschnitt, spitze, runde oder gerade Schnitte, in glatten und aufgerauten Oberflächen, mit Rillen, Rippen oder handgestrichen wie Wappenbiber, Augsburger Dombiber oder ein** Handschlagbiber** - Sonderformen und Wunschfarben werden in der [Firmenname]-Manufaktur individuell umgesetzt."

There is a picture of a Handschlagbiber here:

Björn Vrooman Aug 1, 2020:
@Sarah There seems to be only one German company producing those, which is why I said it is most likely a made-up compound word (which Germans are notorious for!).

Could there be some other explanation? Maybe. But if Handschlagziegel means handmade and a Biber is a Ziegel, this is the most reasonable option.

Even though Germans like to make up compounds, changing the "rules" that much (if half the compound noun is known) is very unlikely, IMO.

Thank you, Björn, and Brent I wondered about it meaning handmade, but wasn't sure enough to go along with my instincts!

handmade beaver-tail tiles

Based on this previous question, I deduced that “Handschlag” means handmade in this case.

So these would be handmade beaver-tail tiles

agree Björn Vrooman : Good thinking. Most likely a made-up German compound. E.g.: "... und ermöglichte dadurch in der Ziegelei neben dem Handschlagen von Ziegeln auch eine erste kleine maschinelle Produktion." https://pisch.at/Ernst/Bildchronik/Leseecke/Josef Klotz.pdf

agree Daniel Arnold (X) : handcrafted may also work, but handmade is just as good :-)
