Finnish term
kangas/kangasmaa
Finnish to English
Science

"kangas/kangasmaa" is defined by a Finnish-only dictionary as
"metsämaa jonka kivennäisaine on kangashumuksen peittämä"
or
"kuiva mäntymetsä"
I've seen "boreal forest" offered as an English translation of "kangas", but that seems too general: I'd think that there are plenty of boreal forests that don't fit the above Finnish descriptions.
Is there a good technical equivalent of "kangas" in English?
Or, is it too Finland-specific a term to have one?
Kiitos

Note from asker:
Thank you. The particular context that sparked this question was a surveying map, which classified various parts of a site as "lehtomainen kangas", "kuivahko kangas", "pelto", etc. |
