Spanish term

medico especialista en oftalmologia

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general)
Hola!

Gracias!

Muriel Vasconcellos Sep 21, 2020:
@Giovanni The Asker should ask her client if the diploma is recognition of a medical degree or if it's a post-M.D. specialization. In most countries, ophthalmology is the latter and my answer stands.
Giovanni Rengifo Sep 21, 2020:
@Muriel I'm surprised to see you changed your mind about your original answer after all.
What answer would you propose now?
Muriel Vasconcellos Sep 19, 2020:
Type of degree While I was very confident in suggesting "ophthalmologist," on considering your context, if it's a medical degree, then the title would need to include "physician." In many countries, the medical degree comes first, followed by a second degree in ophthalmology. So the answer would depend on whether or not the diploma is a basic degree in medicine (not sufficient to practice ophthalmology in many cases). See:

To become a general ophthalmologist, the specialty requires four years of postgraduate specialty training after the completion of a medical degree (MD). This requirement includes a three-year residency in ophthalmology (eye surgery) in an approved surgical residency program, following at least a one-year internship.

With Taña, Muriel and Lirka Source term is too wordy, no need to insist by using ' médico'.
Lirka Sep 19, 2020:
Agree with Muriel just ophthalmologist
Muriel Vasconcellos Sep 18, 2020:
No need to specify that it's a physician In US English, we virtually never say "a physician specialized in" or anything like that. We simply say "ophthalmologist," "gastroenterologist," "pulmonologist," etc.
Taña Dalglish Sep 18, 2020:

Is an ophthalmologist a doctor?
An ophthalmologist — Eye M.D. — is a medical or osteopathic doctor who specializes in eye and vision care. Ophthalmologists differ from optometrists and opticians in their levels of training and in what they can diagnose and treat.

medical ophthalmologist (medical doctor specialized in ophthalmology)
