Course Description: American Literature and Composition utilizes novels, short stories, plays, and poetry from the seventeenth century to the twentieth century. The literature is studied in conjunction with the historical time period the U.S. History course. The writing focuses on argument and literary analysis. “Close readings” of the literature and Socratic discussions are used to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the authors, their works, and their messages.
