doppio distretto pelviureterale

Italian to English Medical Medical (general) Discharge letter for child with ureterocele who underwent surgery
This is about a child who was diagnosed with ureterocele in the womb and underwent surgery shortly after her birth. "L'ecografia post-natale mostrava doppio distretto pelvi-ureterale bilaterale con idro-ureteronefrosis del distretto superiore sinistro". Does this refer to a "duplex collecting system", not requiring the translation of "pelviureteric" (uteropelvic)? Many thanks for all suggestions.

Oops, sorry Heather, it seems your question fell into the wrong slot of my brain. I understood you to ask if the status of having a duplication of kidney/pelvis/ureter is ok (= no trouble), while you were asking if the translation of "duplex collecting system" is ok. Apologies for the confusion!

Thanks for the additional information Anne. "The obstruction may occur at any level in the urinary collecting system from the kidney to the ureter to the bladder to the urethra." The patient in question had completely duplicated ureters, and the upper one was removed from both kidneys. Hopefully my translation was correct.

FYI, but may not affect choice of translation Duplex collecting system may or may not be ok (asymptomatic). In your patient, there is "idro-ureteronefrosis del distretto superiore sinistro", hence, the patient is NOT asymptomatic. This happens, for example, if the two ureters cross and compress each other at some point.

So Duplex Collecting System is ok? That is what I get when I search for pyelo-ureteral duplicity (which also exists and appears to be the same thing)??
