От неспециалиста от слова совсем Чисто с языковой точки зрения, наверное, следует написать не intoxication, а "symptoms of intoxication" - тогда и в предложении все встанет на место, а иначе по-русски перечисляются и симптомы, и состояние, поэтому немного режет ухо. А уж какая интоксикация - эндо-, экзо-, вирусная инфекция и пр., это вопрос конкретных анализов. Извините, если что не так.

Article Dear Natalia, you may be right, but the article you are referring to has been translated from Russian to English and it is the ONLY article I have found so far that uses the term "COVID-19 intoxication". Which doesn't fill me with confidence about the correctness of the translation.

This is clearly intoxication - the term describes organism reaction, not "toxicity" that is about an agent ability to cause intoxication. You may check this term relative to COVID in https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7465708/
