English term

prebate

English to French Bus/Financial Finance (general)
Company policy for contracts

Customer contracts containing incentive payments/***pre-bates*** or rebates and discounts exceeding $100k during the term must be reviewed by the Division VP of Finance (and accounted for based on their guidance) and authorized by the applicable Division President.

Found the following definition for prebate: Prebate means an amount paid in a lump sum to a Customer upfront at the beginning of any contract between such Customer and the relevant Unilever Affiliate for the purchase of Products, such amount representing the present value of future discounts in the price of the Products.

yes but that's an explanation.
Translating the explanation is not exactly translating the term.

In the previous question

there are two perfectly good short translations

Francois Boye Dec 22, 2021:
The text says 'such amount representing the present value of future discounts in the price of the Products.'
Daryo Dec 22, 2021:
@Francois Boye "Actualisation is the French for discounting

Discounting is the process of determining the present value of a future payment or stream of payments. A dollar is always worth more today than it would be worth tomorrow, according to the concept of the time value of money. A higher discount indicates a greater the level of risk associated with an investment and its future cash flows."

??? There is no need to remind me what "la valeur actualisée" is, memory serves me well, haven't forgotten what it is.

The small fly in the ointment is that once again you seem to positively hate the concept of "context" - all your explanations are perfectly correct, but have nothing to do with the actual text to translate.

This ST is NOT about calculating "la valeur actualisée" of some cash flow, it's about making a payment at a different point in time.

Shifting around numbers and shifting around real money is not quite the same thing?

This is more relevant:

Yes, there is already a perfectly good answer.

paiement de futurs rabais actualisés

paiement = upfront payment
les rabais vont avoir lieu dans le futur; c'est pouquoi leur paienent au présent est actualisé.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Daryo : "actualiser" is a method of calculation for comparing amounts of money at different point in times - NOTHING TO DO with actually paying today some amount due at some point in future.

Wrong! Actualiser = to calculate the present value of an amount to be acquired in the future.
disagree Laurent Di Raimondo : Même analyse que Daryo. Le terme "actualisé" n'a rien à faire ici. Il s'agit d'une avance versée à un client à valoir sur les remises qui seront pratiquées sur les futures commandes.

PLease read: 'such amount representing the present value of future discounts in the price of the Products. '
