English term
attending physician (on call)
English to French
Medical
Medical (general)
organisation of physicians in a hospital
I am translating an epicrisis for a NSCLC patient from Danish into French, and the Danish term "bagvagt" appears. In the Danish hospital system, a "bagvagt" is a senior physican with many years for experience who supports the physicians in the front line.
Does anyone know if the French hospital system has a similar function, and if yes, what is such a function called? If I understand it correctly, it is not a 'médicin de garde', as this function seems to be oriented towards citizens falling ill outside hours/outside hospitals.

Praticien Hospitalier
PH = Praticien Hospitalier.
If it is out of working hours, it can be "PH d'astreinte = "Praticien Hospitalier d'astreinte"
In English, the word would be "Consultant" but in French, the equivalent that I could find is "Praticien Hospitalier."

"Praticien Hospitalier" est un titre hiérarchique dans la fonction publique hospitalière en France, exclusivement chez les médecins. https://infos.emploipublic.fr/article/praticien-hospitalier-...

: À ma connaissance, le terme "praticien" désigne tout professionnel en exercice; ici, ça inclut le médecin, soit, mais aussi l'infirmier ou même le comptable. // Est-ce le cas ailleurs? Ne faut-il pas distinguer traduction et localisation?

Why not simply ask in the Danish to French language pair? What's to be gained by translating twice / in two steps?
Also, how sure are you that "attending physician" is the right translation for "bagvagt"? As far as I can see it's not quite the same - an MD (of whatever rank) would have the role of "attending physician" in relation to a specific patient, while the definition given for "bagvagt" sounds more like a job title / a rank in hierarchy (possibly a "registrar", just a guess).
