Perfect track record - doskonałe osiągnięcia. Ale 'perfect grant track record'? A może oddzielnie 'perfect grant' i 'perfect track record'? Uprzejmie dziękuję za ratunek.

Dziękuję Frank. To chyba wyczerpuje temat i z pewnością posłuży innym w przyszłości. Pozdrawiam
5)Ph. D., Social Science: “Grant track record” refers to one’s tendency to get (or not get) grant funding. The greater the reliability and value of the grants someone or some institution receives, the better their “grant track record”. You can usually see someone’s grant record on the grant or funding section of their CV or on an institution’s website under “sponsored research” or a similar label.
4) As others said, the “grant track record” is just the list of grants that an investigator has gotten during their career. The reason that it is an important metric for scientists is the reality that folks who have regularly gotten grants in the past are more likely to stay funded in the future. This is for several reasons.

First, grant writing is a skill like any other that is actually quite difficult to master as it involves really understanding how to explain your science in writing in a way to make other scientists excited about your work. Once one masters that skill you are way more likely to get a grant funded. ie past performance in grant writing really does predict future success well….

Second, folks who have consistent funding have an easier time remaining scientific productive because they have the money to produce science. Thus, a consistently funded investigator is also one who likely has a consistent publication record (particularly since grant agencies will not fund you if you don’t produce from your prior funding no matter how great your grants are written.

Third, someone who has a great “grant track record” is also someone who has shown the ability to keep motiv
3) In general, it refers to the history of grants given to the researcher or their lab. Success rate, dollar per grant, publications per grant, and so on.

I worked while attending graduate school. For my Master’s, my employer provided a grant to my advisor’s lab that in part was intended to pay my research assistant wage. The professor took some argument to accept that free money because the relatively low grant amount would “bring down his average”.
My question was eliminated on English proz because it was deemed not to be a question. I posted it on two forums.
1) An answer from a biology professor on another forum:
It refers to the success rate of a researcher in successfully obtaining grant funding for their research. “She’s had a great grant track record. Her research has been continuously funded for over 20 years!”
2) A good grant track record means you have an uncle Bob and you’ve been able to obtain funding a number of times. Grants are competitive and it’s difficult to find bodies that will support your research. You can’t figure out how their thinking works and why a brilliant application fails and a poorly written application has been successful! In any case, a series of successful grant applications look impressive on your CV and increases your chances of getting further funds. Universities like those staff members whose academic research attracts sponsors and grant givers so that they can use internal funds for other work. In other words, when they ask you about your ‘grant track record’ they want to know who’s funding your research?

Ok, fair enough. I will be happy to learn what others say.

Please note that in the form you provided there is also 'grant score' field.

A grant's score is generally the sole determinant of the funding decision, irrespective of proposal costs (assuming they are deemed reasonable).

Second thing - some, perhaps even all awarded project grantees need to submit 'progress reports' so there exists a 'track record' of their grant performance.

Hi Frank, I see it differently. For me a track record is a record of past performance demonstrating the capacity to carry out proposed research. This in turn may possibly be used as an indicator of likely future performance.

Preparing a Grant Application

All research submissions require a track record statement
...
A track record statement is an argument demonstrating your capacity to carry out research and aims to convince assessors that you have the research skills, experience and ability to manage the project.
...
A track record statement should include the following:

Significant contributions to this research field
This is not everything you have ever done. Keep to a maximum of half a page and choose two or three significant things you have contributed to the research field in which the application/proposal fits.

Other evidence of impact and contributions to the field
Other opportunities for research

@mike: I am not aware of a "track record of a grant". Once you have a grant, it has no track record per se. We are not tracking a grant; we are looking at how successful the grant applicant is in obtaining grants (and perhaps completing the work specified in the grant application). When describing the grant track record, a scientist lists all the grants and their amounts that the scientist has managed to obtain.
mike23 Jan 7, 2022:
@ Frank - I think that 'the track record of a grant or grants' means more than just successfully obtaining it.

What I am opposed to is the implication that researchers’ scholarly merit should be gauged in large measure by grant success. This fundamental and largely unquestioned law of academic life has spawned several corollary ordinances. Most notably, faculty members in a growing number of psychology departments cannot be hired, tenured, or promoted without a solid grant track record — regardless of the quality or impact of their work. Remarkably, researchers who are generating significant discoveries and influencing the field’s thinking without using large sums of money may nonetheless risk being fired if they don’t obtain grants.
