David Williams (asker) Feb 3, 2022:
Thanks, TonyTK The customer was thrilled with that suggestion!
David Williams (asker) Feb 2, 2022:
No clues, as this is merely a certificate BUT the customer has clarified with he following information:

"in der Tat kann man nicht übersetzen, was es so in der anderen Sprache nicht gibt. ... Denkbar sind: Fachkrankenschwester im Funktionsdienst: specialized nurse in gastroscopy

Fachkrankenschwester für den Operationsdienst: specialized nurse for the operation theatre (oft auch nur operation theatre nurse).
TonyTK Feb 2, 2022:
See https://www.klinikum-lueneburg.de/pflege-funktionsdienst/
for the difference between "Funktionsdienst" and "Pflegedienst".
My final offer is "Certified Specialist Nurse".
British Diana Feb 2, 2022:
More clues? David, are there any clues on the document which could tell us more about how specialised the nurse is? What/when/where was her training? Otherwise you might end up making her qualifications sound grander than they are. An example of this I saw recently: Schulabschluss einer Wirtschaftschule (aged 16) = "Diploma in Business Studies", Ausbildung zur Hotelfachfrau (aged 19) = "Diploma in Hospitality Business".
TonyTK Feb 2, 2022:
Your best bet ... ... is probably just "specialist nurse". The German term would cover theatre nurses, oncology nurses, tissue viability nurses etc. etc. but there doesn't appear to be an equivalent collective term for these nurses in English

neutral Steffen Walter : "Health care" is far too generic to reflect "Funktionsdienst".

agree Esther Pugh : I like it, and I don't mind "healthcare" either, but it's redundant ----> I think "clinical" would work as well (https://nacns.org/about-us/what-is-a-cns/)

This appears to be a nurse with a specialisation in functional diagnostics. See also https://ec.europa.eu/growth/tools-databases/regprof/index.cf...
Peer comments on this reference comment:

agree TonyTK : But not sure about the "diagnostics"; if I had to describe what the nurse does, it might be "specialised nurse in a non-ward setting" (assuming I understand the term correctly) - say a "theatre nurse", for example.

True, this might as well refer to an "off-ward" setting, as it were, i.e. everything except direct patient/bedside care.
