Terrible website from the 1990s! ;) I get to do the translation for the new website, but I'm stuck on this very particular term. Here is the initial context:
"Die Museumslay ist ein Freilichtmuseum als Dauerausstellung mit verschiedenen Zeugnissen der schweren Arbeit der Großväter auf dem ehemaligen Grubengelände."
In this sentence I've simply left the German in in italics, after all it is the name of the museum. However, later in the text they just refer to "die Lay":
"Direkt am Eingang zur Lay findet man ein besonderes Prunkstück – den Schläsch-Express, ein Nachbau einer alten Grubenbahn mit Loren."
I've got around it by calling it "site", but then comes this:
"Heiraten auf der Lay
Als „Außenstelle“ des Mendiger Standesamts werden auf Wunsch und entsprechender Terminvereinbarung Trauungen auf der altehrwürdigen Lay durchgeführt."
I've found a workaround by calling it "Museumslay" again here in the heading and making reference to the "venerable location" in the following sentence.
I'm not entirely happy though and it's bugging me not knowing what "die Lay" actually is! Is there a word for it in EN?! Thanks ever so much =)
