German term

MK

German to English Medical Medical (general) Otorhinolaryngology
In a patient report written by an otorhinolaryngologist, the decision for treatment is described as follows:

Auf Grund der geschilderten Apnoen Indikation zur AT/MK ods./Ohrmikroskopie bds. gegeben, orientierende Aufklärung der Mutter is erfolgt.

The text is about a 15-month infant with snoring and apnea. The physician is planning adenoidectomy (AT) but I couldn't figure out what MK stands for. I haven't ever come across such an acronym.

Discussion

philgoddard Apr 12, 2022:
Actually that's not totally out of the question.
Cenk Başaran (asker) Apr 12, 2022:
Muschelkaustik Could it be this? Nasal turbinate cautering.
thefastshow Apr 12, 2022:
Good point Phil, but it appears so

philgoddard Apr 12, 2022:
Are you sure AT is adenoidectomy? It doesn't seem a very logical abbreviation. And what is "ods"? I assume bds. is beidseitig.
Brent Sørensen Apr 12, 2022:
M for Manel? The M could also stand for Mandel.
Patients often have a tonsillectomy the same time as an adenoidectomy.
It’s a long shot, but MK could be a non-standard internal abbreviation for Mandelektomie.

Mandelkappung

Given the context I guess this the term in question:
Mandelkappung = Tonsillotomie = Teilentfernung der Gaumenmandeln
