: As I understand it, a common-law jurisdiction is a country, such as England and Wales, governed by common law. This is just a notary who operates in different areas, eg suburbs of a city.

Yes and No. Notaries are not legal servants per se, they represent common law before juridical law. In the UK, as you well know Phil, the notarial syatem isn't so widespread here.

: Italian Notaries practise under Roman civil law, as do City of London Scriveners (Archbishop of Canterbury scribes). Commissioners for Oaths practise in the ENG Common Law tradition. Juridical law is a tautology//Lesson: study Brooke's Notary *carefully*.

So predictable, so predictable... by the way, "scrivener notaries" is also a tautology, as 'scribes' and ' notaries' are the same thing ; expect you were a scribe when you were a pharisee in biblical times, sure it's on your CV somewhere...
