I do have a problem with the interpretation of "running rings" here.
Does anyone know the true meaning?

Most dictionary results explain it along the lines of "If you say that someone runs rings round you or runs rings around you, you mean that they are a lot better or a lot more successful than you at a particular ..."
This is not necessarily a bad thing with negative connotations at all though!
Also I am puzzled as to how this translates to treating a customer since the term seems to be used in the context of competition - could anyone elaborate?

I did find this though:

"in den Sack stecken".
