Spanish term

Sala de peines

Spanish to English Social Sciences Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting Museums
SPAIN. Apparently this term is used to describe the place in museums where artworks are stored when not on display. I've been asked to find out if there is a specific term for this other than simply "store/storage".

Here are a couple of examples of usage (although not from the text I'm working on, which doesn't have any).

"Sala de peines: almacenamiento de pintura (bandas correderas que albergan los cuadros en vertical)."

"Afortunadamente, a lo largo de nuestra investigación, hemos podido comprobar que dicho relieve se conserva en la ***sala de peines*** del Museo de la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando."

@Neil Thank you

@Neil FWIW, I would give the points to O G V as they took the time to find references. I've often lost out on the points because I spent time preparing a helpful answer.
neilmac (asker) Oct 27, 2022:
Actually It appears in a text I'm revising, and the authors had translated it as "comb room". As it happens, for the purposes of the text I'm working on, "storeroom" will suffice and there is no need to go into further detail. Now, I just wish I could split the kudoz points, because although MPGS got in there first, OGV supplied a lot of explanatory links....

You live and learn, so true.

no parece ser término tan infrecuente al menos en este tipo de discursos, yo tampoco lo recordaba pero aparece en textos muy diversos, técnicos o museísticos, simples noticias... peines+museo

@Neil I had never heard this term before. Although the RAE dictionary does not provide an explanation about the origin of the term in this particular context, I understand it must have been used in the theater world first prior to being adopted as a (very rare, I believe) term of art in Spanish museums.
“Sala de peines” displays just 18 meagre hits in a Google search, which speaks for itself.

MUSEUM STORAGE SHELVING
Our art rack museum storage shelving systems offer a versatile and secure way to store fine art collections, with special consideration to two-dimensional works.
Racks can either be hung from the ceiling or integrated into a museum’s existing floor. Store double the amount of art by hanging pieces on both sides of the rack.

Helpful picture racking guide

TOP SUPPORTED PICTURE RACKING
This is the most common type of picture racking system and is usually the most cost effective.

The pull out mesh panels are supported from above by a steel mainframe designed to offer support independently of the room in which it is built. The only structural constraint with this type of picture storage is the point loading for the legs; there must be sufficient structural support in the floor to withstand the loads on each leg.

FLOOR SUPPORTED PICTURE RACKING
This type of art racking is recommended when adequate floor point loading is not possible and an evenly distributed load is required, here our helpful picture racking guide tells you more.

This type of picture racking is common when the art storage installation is not on a ground or basement floor, where the floor is weak or where the structural integrity of the floor cannot be properly ascertained.

oropels room

Esa palabra Peine, sinónimo de oropel (imitación de oro) es mui rara: oropel are made of metallic league similar to gold.
Peines room is correct, although I found better ‘oropels room’, better than 'tinsels room'
oropel (latón): oropel

It seems peine it’s an English word (neologism):

Note from asker:
Pensaba que el nombre vendría como su aspecto parecido a un peine. No pasa nada, al final me basta con "storeroom", sin darle más vueltas. Gracias y un saludo :-)
