a quick doubt about the following sentence from a cartoon. The character speaking (a spirit/mystical being) is describing a type of fairy who looks exactly like a human.
ヒトよりも我らに近しく、ヒトの子では背負いきれぬ定めを負うもの
(A being nearer to us than the humans, bearing a burden too great for a human child.)
Does ヒトよりも我らに近しく mean that:
1) the fairy is nearer to the speaker's race than she is to humans...
2) or that the spaker's race is nearer to the fairy than they they are to humans?

I have seen similar expressions and I would say that the emphasis is definitely that the being is closer to them than the humans. Additionally, I would also say that the fairy being described bears the burden of a fate too great for a human child.
