There are different forms of parasite treatments in cats and dogs as I've summarized below.
For internal parasite infestations such as roundworms, tapeworms, hookworms and heartworms etc. generally oral/chewable tablets or injections are given.
For external parasite infestations such as fleas, mites and ticks, drops that are applied in between the shoulders or injections are given.
There are some all-in-one tablets as well.
In Turkey, internal/external parasite treatment is preferred to be applied on a monthly or quarterly basis according to the season and geographical area that the pet lives.
