Change log

Aug 25, 2023 21:56: Yvonne Gallagher changed "Level" from "PRO" to "Non-PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (3): Daryo, AllegroTrans, Yvonne Gallagher

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Anastasia Kalantzi Jul 24, 2023:
DON'T ANSWER. THIS IS A BOT SYSTEM. "Whoever gets mixed up with the bran gets eaten by the hens".
florence metzger Jul 21, 2023:
dead reckoning en navigation c'est naviguer à l'estime ...
Daryo Jul 20, 2023:
Whatever is right or wrong with the Asker the question might still be of interest, or not.
AllegroTrans Jul 20, 2023:
@ Writeaway @ Daryo We are being taken as idiots, and answering this person/commenting on answers is just encouraging him. He clearly is not a translator and I strongly encourage you to report him to site management as an abuser of the forum. "He" might not even be a person at all in which case this is a clear abuse of the site rules.
Daryo Jul 20, 2023:
As for "Dead Reckoning" however dramatic it might sound, is has NOTHING to do with anyone being dead.

It's in fact rather mundane, it's only a system of navigation, and it's as such that it was included in the title of the movie.

Plot
An experimental AI attacks and sinks the next-generation Russian submarine, Sevastopol, which was testing a new navigation system using dead reckoning, by tricking it into firing a torpedo at itself
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mission:_Impossible_-_Dead_Rec...

Whole 15 sec web search ....

Never mind all that, the whole question is in fact totally pointless.

When released for a different audience, like in a different country from one where the film was made, film titles more often than not are not "translated" at all. A completely different title would be given to a French or Spanish or Russian or Chinese version, that would be more appealing to the intended audiences in these countries.

All we can do here is to find out what is "Dead Reckoning" and what's it's got to do with the content of the movie. What would be the title of the movie chosen for a French speaking audience has precious little to do with any "translation" of the title.
writeaway Jul 20, 2023:
@Daryo It does really feel like we are being played
Daryo Jul 20, 2023:
@ writeaway one would be badly tempted to think we are dealing with a badly programmed bot ...

For someone who asked 244 questions (and answered none / zilch /nada ...) you would expect they by now know how to ask questions?
writeaway Jul 20, 2023:
So now films are a sporting event? Because actors 'play' parts?
Sakshi Garg Jul 20, 2023:
I prefer to keep as it is Keeping the title as /Dead Reckoning, Partie Deux/ would likely be the best approach for a French audience in Quebec or elsewhere. This is because it's notable that many English phrases and titles are commonly used in French marketing and branding, particularly in Quebec.

pilotage à l’instinct!

J’ai vu sur le net que le titre du film avait été traduit par ‘navigation à l’estime’
Peer comment(s):

neutral Daryo : 'navigation à l’estime’ sounds more accurate to me.

Parce que ça sonne mieux?
Peer comment(s):

disagree Sakshi Garg : As this seems to be a title of the movie, so, it is preferred to keep as it is.

disagree Daryo : "dead reckoning" has nothing to do with anyone being dead or in any kind of mortal danger
