Italian term
I diritti di traduzione sono ancora disponibili?
I have found an American book that might be of interest to an Italian publisher, but I need to know whether the translation rights of this book are still available, so I am writing to the American publisher to find out the situation. I’m not sure, however, if my attempt “I would like to know whether the translation rights of this book are still available for Italy” is correct...
Thank you so much for your help!

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.
How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:
An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)
A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).
Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.
When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.
* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

are the translation rights still going ('up for grabs')?
Anyway, a canny and shrewd question, short of the enquirer doing an international copyright search I now advise all-comers to do.
A UK student contemporary of mine never got paid for a retranslation into BrE of a 250-page Russian literary novel that, unbeknownst to him, had already been translated and the publishers put paid to...
. as qualification for the Champions League was still up for grabs.
Thank you so much, Adrian, for your suggestion! |

You think, though the whole point was to sneak in copyright search advice.

Or, last but not least, I can give you points, since I also have the impression that Adrian's suggestion is a little too informal..
what do you think!
