Thomas Walker Sep 23, 2023:
@philgoddard Good question, Phil. I think there's a good chance that what is going on with the patient is indeed flashing lights, probably in an ocular migraine. But I looked hard, and was unable to find a link from "cuadro de luces" in Spanish to "flashing lights" in English.
philgoddard Sep 23, 2023:
Can someone explain why 'cuadro de' means 'flashing'?

Then add 'display of, if you want, but changes the meaning a little. I remember seeing them when I was a child. They go on and off so quickly that that the "flashing" part is paramount.

neutral philgoddard : Maybe, but I don't think English references are much help - we know what flashes of light are.

frame of light

I'd go generic here, and "frame" is quite a flexible concept.
