The word "social" has several senses. According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary (www.m-w.com), the word "social" has the following senses:
1. devoted to or engaged in for sociability
2. of or relating to human society
3. tending to form cooperative relationships with others
4. of, relating to, or based on rank in a particular society
Therefore, the word "social" does not necessarily mean "of or relating to human society". The word "social" in "social phobia" is referred to the phobia in social interactions in social situations.
