Italian term

unico complesso motivo

Italian to English Law/Patents Law (general)
This expression appears many times in Italian legal documents but I cannot find the English equivalent.
"OMISSIS) ha proposto ricorso per cassazione, articolato in unico complesso motivo (1: violazione degli articoli 1129, 1130, 1130-bis, 1131, 1135 c.c., contraddittoria motivazione
or
"Siffatta decisione è censurata dal ricorrente con un unico complesso motivo di ricorso," or " Contro l'indicata sentenza di appello ha proposto ricorso per cassazione, affidato ad un unico complesso motivo"

combined grounds of appeal

I think that "combined" contains the idea of single or one only, as they are being "combined", i.e. this would be redundant in English.

Another example:
"I have in mind a document that could COMBINE THE GROUNDS OF APPEAL and skeleton argument, along the lines now provided for in the Civil Division of the Court of Appeal...."

A combined grounds would imply one single - i.e. grammatical usage.
"Whether an issue arises from a COMBINATION OF GROUNDS of appeal"

Example sentence:

"Whether he is correct about this depends on my conclusions in relation to the third group of COMBINED GROUNDS OF APPEAL pursued by Mr Williams."

single cassation instance

The Court of Cassation in Italy and elsewhere - The Netherlands, for example - examines cases where a lower court is held to have erroneously applied substantive or procedural law. It will not look at the facts of the case (but it may refer the case back to the appeals court for adjudication). A supreme Court hands down rulings on both substantive and procedural matters and the merits of a case. Court of Cassation decisions and binding and constitute precedent.

Italian term (edited): unico complesso motivo (di ricorso)

single hybrid ground (of appeal)

> rather than a 'common ground of appeal', as in the first ProZ weblink.

hybrid: both civil tort/ Louisiana & Scots : delictual & criminal, prechance, as in the first example sentence.

Compare Garzanti' 'zoological entry': hybrid annuity - rendita ibrida (fissa e variabile)!

Example sentence:

USA: Habeas corpus actions, the court ruled, are not purely civil actions, but are a hybrid, with characteristics indicative of both civil and criminal actions.
