neutral shlepakoff : Although I agree with the wide usage of the proposed expression, I do not believe that "precision" really applies to a sentence that starts with "finite" and ends with "quite large"

agree Alexandra Tussing : possible, even in this context

agree nuclear : saying that area is large is more precise than saying it's infinite, if you actually don't know it to be infinite... In maths or physics you often say "infinite" meaning "very large" (=large enough compared to scale of problem), but it's less precise:)

In more cautious terms

FULL SENTENCE:
This field is limitless, or, to use more cautious/humble terms, quite extensive.
Peer comment(s):

agree Mikhail Kropotov : sounds best. ADDED: David Mitchell is correct in that "limitless" is not as good as "unbounded"

neutral David Mitchell : Devoid of other context, the mathematical phrasing would likely be "the region is unbounded or, more broadly [less restrictively], sufficiently large"

without going to extremes

/This area has no limits or without going to extremes - it's really big/
Peer comment(s):

neutral Mikhail Kropotov : True. But this is mathematics. Needs precise terms. Must use terminology. [hope the humor is apparent :-]

in broader terms

The sense of the pendant clause is to negate the requirement that the region be unbounded....
