Во второй части можно также: are how accidental are they? Я бы, честно говоря, заменила "accidents" на "surprises" - дабы избежать негативного смысла. НО если переводить ближе к изначальному тексту, получается: Life is full of acciedents

Yes, yes I know - "plagiatrism", isn't it? Maybe not - the only point I wanted to make is that in some industry (guess which) there was a big longstanding argument about linguistic difference between "accident/incident" and corresponding Russian "terms". Very heated debate - most of the participantsof which didn't have a clue what was the "English" difference about. Accident is really prejorative (negative). The "случайность" in the quote isn't. Another option for translation - occasions/occasional - but perhaps a bit worse (?) (occasionally - kind of "рано или поздно")...

Coincidences are abundant in our lives, but are they just coincidences?
Все ж решил до кучи добавить свою версию. Как "краевед". ;)))
По опыту, речь все же не просто о "случайностях", а о "случайных совпадениях". Они по-разному выражаются: как знаки, знамения или Юнговская синхронистичность. Но главное, что "ничто не случайно". Обычно я читал в нейтивных книгах, что "in fact,there are no simple coincidences". Отсюда и ответ. Марк, с регардсами и прочее, ну Вы ж знаете, шо тут говорить. :)

Я исхожу из того, что accidents -- это все же больше несчастные случаи, а вот coincidence -- дело другое, это и правда своеобразные знамения. Честно признаться, я сам не раз на себе испытывал, только уж задним числом \"врубался\". Для примера, за месяц до перевода очень серьезной книги по религии мне сначала на глаза попался словарь соотвествующий на книжном рынке (я его купил тогда сам не знаю зачем, просто по наитию и \"на всякий случай\", хотя вроде бы он мне не очень-то был и нужен), потом были чисто случайные встречи с людьми, которые, словно сговорившись, рассказывали мне вещи, жутко пригодившиеся потом в переводе. В общем, случайные стечения обстоятельств, которые словом coincidence вроде бы чудесно передаются. Чистая синхронистичность в стиле Юнга. Что еще сказать... \"Дао, которое можно выразить словами, не есть истинное Дао\". :)
