Checking Account: This is the most common type of bank account. You do rarely earn interest on money in this type of account and you are given a checkbook that is printed with your address, phone number and your bank accoutn number. You use these checks to pay for most services, goods, and for your monthly bills. In the USA you pay your bills directly to the company that provides your service by writing them a check; you do not use the post office to pay thses bills. Banks charge fees but some banks offer free checking account services to students!
Savings Account: Unlike checking accounts, these pay interest on money that you do not access on a regular basis. Talk to bank representatives about interest rates, fees and penalties for withdrawals.
