English term

mat .... (multi-mat stretcher)

English Bus/Financial Human Resources Safety, Rescue Equipment
this is about a multi-mat stretcher used in construction work rescue.
the sentence goes as:
- the hurt person must be transported in a multi-mat stretcher.
then, it says:
- if someone touches the red mat it might cause to death
- if someone touches the black mat it might cause a broken arm

any clues how this multi-mat looks like and why it's so critical?!

thank you. I guess it is something like this one:
http://store.andax.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPRODGROUP&ID...
the confusion here is where it says:
- If you touch the Red.. Death!
- If you touch the Black.. Broken Arm!
so, I thought the instructions were giving a "warning", but I understand this as an "Indication" instead!
Thank you, SirReal and all.

thank you, SirReal (1) Is the sentence supposed to be saying: "We send a multi-mat up there. If the Rescuer uses the Red one, then this indicates we're having a so and so injury. Else, we're going to have a dead worker, etc."?

(2) If they send up a multi-mat, how would the rescuer change the mat? does he flip it to the responding color, or what?
Could you please help in clarifying so I could translate it properly?!
And, yes. The original is written just like that!
Many thanks to you!

red mat is intended for dead bodies, black one is for injured persons

Considering the poor English used, I think this is what's meant:

- if a person has died, the red mat should be used on the stretcher to transport the body
- if a person has sustained an injury (such as a broken arm), the black mat should be used on the stretcher

Just a guess really.

Dear randa2,
I cannot profess any knowledge in the context of technology and technique of changing mats on a multi-mat stretcher... Though I am sure it cannot be quite as complicated as one might imagine.

Whoever summons the rescuer probably tells him what kind of accident has happened, so the rescuer should select the appropriate mat. Perhaps the mats are only for indicating the type of accident, but they might also be different with respect to their characteristics and properties.

Regarding changing mats on the stretcher, I have no idea. It\'s possible that it\'s a two-level stretcher, or maybe a two-sided stretcher. But maybe the mats have to be put on the stretcher beforehand, e.g. remove the red mat & put on the black mat before dispatching to the injured person (and vice versa).

There isn\'t much context to analyze it much further.
I hope this helps you :-]
