thus terminating its/his/her status as a legal entity
persona jurídica is legal entity, according to Tom West's Spanish-English Dictionary of Law and Business. He also lists terminate for extinguish.

: I like this better than mine. However, West translates "personería" as "legal capacity", so I would use "capacity" instead of "entity".
