An applied rooting approach / study

There is a difference between the definitions of "fundamental" and "foundational."

Fundamental: a necessary base or core, an essential part of a foundation or basis.

Foundational: arising from or going to the root or source; denoting an underlying basis or principle, as in "the foundational principles of a religion."

Given the form that this adjective takes in the Arabic, I think this is "foundational study" not fundamental.

By the way, I notice that many of the examples of "foundational study" online relate to religious studies. I'm attaching a few as an example.
