What is the best for the pilot, looking down and studying four large flashing screens which show hundredh of informations per second. Or is it better to have head up and looking the situation around. What do you think, is it good when the pilot spends a lot of time studying the cockpit instruments? I think, features like HMD, HUD, HOTAS, direct voice input, acoustical warning informations or voice information will decrease pilot's workload a lot. The only important thing what he has to read from displays are the digital map and radar screen. All other informations like flight informations etc. showed are merged with HMD, HUD, sound warnings(voice) and direct voice input. ... The issue of information overloading is an important one and this is why I bilieve that sensor fusion is a big advantage. In the F-22's case you will be getting loads of information but they all go through the same information terminal (single computer for wepaons managment, radar proccessing, ew, display etc..), so it filters the data and shows sort of the weighted average of the information thats showed. I completely agree with you that I don't know about the software used in detail, but this is advertised a lot and we do have some facts such as the F-22 having a centralized architecture and the Rafale having a federalized one. There are some assumptions made here but without those its generally hard to get far. |
