In my opinion, the slash should be in this direction: "/". The inverted slash is not used in general language very often.
But anyway, what is the context of your phrase? It doesn't make any sense to me!?

I see your point. That is why I wrote "in general language". Anyway, I think that if the American outsourcer had dealt with a "CAT text", he would have let us know.
