Some explanations, because some doubts about two different translations.
Peasant - a member of a European class of persons tilling the soil as small land-owners or as laborers;
- a member of similar class elsewhere; or
- a usu. uneducated person of low social class.

In S/A slovnik from 1930 rolnik - farmer or husbandman
rolnictvo - farming, husbandry; farmers

Thank you.
neutral Andrea Demovič : Simply, I am not sure. 'Peasant' seems the right word for that time, true! Not sure whether they used the word 'farmer' in those days.
