Czech term

Základní lečba

Czech to English Medical Medical: Pharmaceuticals SPC/PIL
Hope this is not a thick question but in a set of "particulars to appear on the outer packaging and the immediate packaging" I keep coming up against "Základní lečba" and am not sure of the correct technical term in English. Littered throughout EMA documents as "background therapy" but am not sure that fits....
LÉKOVÁ FORMA A OBSAH BALENÍ
Injekční suspenze
***ZÁKLADNÍ LÉČBA***

ÚDAJE UVÁDĚNÉ NA VNĚJŠÍM OBALU A VNITŘNÍM OBALU
Krabička ***(základní léčba)***

Štítky na stříkačkách – ***základní léčba***

Thanks for "putting me out of my misery" anyone

Discussion

Charles Stanford (asker) May 9, 2015:
Eventually found the SPC and PIL for this in English and they use "initial course" and "extension course" - it is for a hyposensitisation product
EvaVer (X) May 8, 2015:
Yes, first line as opposed to "pomocná", not to "udržovací"
Hannah Geiger (X) May 8, 2015:
initial therapy/treatment first-line treatment/front-line treatment

in some situations, udržovací léčba can also mean palliative therapy, as in terminal diseases
Charles Stanford (asker) May 8, 2015:
Yes Stuart - thanks, you are a star. Have just come across the "udržovací léčba" actually, so had sort of worked out where I should have been heading, but would have taken me ages to get to "primary treatment". Please stick it in as an answer
Stuart Hoskins May 8, 2015:
primary treatment followed by maintenance therapy (udržovací léčba)?
