Danish term

tingskriver

Danish to English Other History administration
I believe this is a designation for an administrative post in Denmark but have not been able to find the correct translation into English. Could it, perhaps, be 'clerk of the court' or is there a better translation?

Peer comment(s):

agree Charles Ek : Or "registrar of deeds" or "recorder of deeds", among other possibilities. See examples of alternatives at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recorder_of_deeds. A Clerk of Court usually does judicial record keeping, not land rights registration, in the U.S.

keeper of the records, or taker of the minutes at the "ting"

In the good old days governing bodies were "tings" (like "folketinget"), and there was a person appointed to write down everything that happened or was said. This is different from a public registrar, and had nothing to do with recording or registering "deeds", in the sense of property documents.

"scribe" might be appropriate, as it sounds more like something belonging to that historical period
