I went for a 'fan-shaped' one because it sounds the best in my native language. Plus, it does look much more like a fan to me (and absolutely not like a peacock's tail).

semi-circular or half-round maybe? you have to decide whether this is a "peacock cutout" or simply a "fan-shaped cutout" leaving out the "peacock"

other options would be "semi-circular" or "half-round" shaped air intake vents or slots with no mention either of the "peacock" or the "cutout"

You are right. I guess one of their engineers was just feeling creative. Now I just have to figure out how to translate it into my native language without being ridiculous.

any image of the rotor housing air intake? no hit for your term in Danish, not even combining it into "påfugludskæring" but in German there is "Pfauausschnitt" and in English "peacock cutout", both with a few hits totally unrelated to your context (rotor housing air intake)

is there any image of the rotor housing air intake slots / air intake vents on the rotor housing?

perhaps these slots or vents appear "peacock fan shaped" to the viewer of the wood chipper
