Dutch term

noppenplaat

Dutch to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering insurance
I am working on a fairly technical insurance document, and came across the following sentence. Btw, the word "noppenplaat" is used many times, hence the question.
"Op de noppenplaat wordt een betonnen werkvloer van 10 cm staalvezel beton..." Also:"Waterinfiltratie in woonkelder, plaatsen van dubbele wand en noppenplaat: Nu het plaatsen van een extern waterdicht membraan..."

Barend van Zadelhoff May 20, 2010:
@ toybox "dimpled sheeting" is not my answer, but it is the answer the asker found when he checked the English site of the supplier
but you are right: it is the right answer

on the other hand, a "dimpled sheeting" could also be called a "stud panel" (my answer), but they don't :-)

thank you, anyway
have a nice day
toybox May 20, 2010:
@Barend: why not enter that as the answer? IMO, your ARE right. Dimpled sheeting is used to waterproof floors. Dimple = small depression in a surface. Also called 'studded draining sheet'.
Barend van Zadelhoff Apr 19, 2010:
dimpled sheeting I think this is the right answer (have you noticed that they talk of "stud height" and "air volume between studs"?)

The problem with my own answer is that it seems to be exclusively used in a floor heating context

Besides your dimpled sheeting seems to do exactly what is talked about in your question, but it does closely resemble my stud panel / mat

Thank you for letting us know.
Peter Moor (asker) Apr 19, 2010:
Other name... In addition to dimpled sheet(ing) the Delta website mentions the word cavity membrane(s). The latter I think is used for the product category as a whole. The polyethylene "nops" are, btw, called studs.
Peter Moor (asker) Apr 19, 2010:
Possible answer that I found: dimpled sheeting I found the brand of the material (Noppenplaat DELTA MS-20) in the text itself and on their website: http://www.deltamembranes.com/delta_ms20_s.htm they mention it as "dimpled sheeting". Your opinion?

Arrangement of the studs
The panels have a pressure button system. Each panel has both attachment studs on two sides and moulded studs on two sides, which allows clean and easy assembly, ensuring a perfect seal.

"stud panel" and "stud mat" are used interchangeably

The origin of the term is from weaving. A nop was what used to be called a burl in English. This was an unsightly lump or bump in a woven piece of material caused by an accumulation of lint in the weaving process and there were burling tweezers or even burling machines to remove these pieces of lint from the work because they interfered with the value of the fabric. So noppen were unevennesses in texture.
Note from asker:
Interesting. textpertise, it appears from the first set of photos (Dutch) that these are rubber or some type other than steel. Don't you think? I am wondering if there is a (are) specific word(s) that is (are) generally used in the construction industry for this product.

Note from asker:
Ben, could you check your link. I get a Page not found message, and no info on the word. I saw the English button, but no reference to noppenplaat...
