Dutch term

valhekbeveiliging; valhek beveiliging

Dutch to English Tech/Engineering Engineering (general)
my text (a user manual for a vertical product conveyor system):

'Valhek beveiliging

Sounds like you've found some good answers!
If we're really being pedantic, "drop-down gate" is a tautology unless you live in a zero-gravity environment :-)

self-closing (pallet) gate https://www.google.co.uk/search?safe=off&rlz=1C1PRFB_enGB534... (Google image search for: "self-closing pallet gate" pallet)

Onroerend Goed Lexicon : valhek = self-closing gate (schuin staand hek)
valhek = portcullis

I also see mention of a 'self-closing pallet gate' here and there on the web (https://www.google.co.uk/search?safe=off&rlz=1C1PRFB_enGB534... ).

Thanks Phil, Yes, I have been using 'drop gate' so far. I found 'valdeur = drop gate' and 'valdeur = roof gate' in my Dictionary of Building and Civil Engineering (Kluwer, 1985). I think I might change that to 'drop-down gate'.
philgoddard Jul 17, 2013:
I'm guessing that valhek and valhekbeveiliging have the same translation. It means a portcullis in architecture, so it's obviously some kind of drop-down gate. It could even be portcullis in this context too.

Proposed translations

3 hrs

protective drop gate; drop safety gate

Either of these might do the trick, Michael. See the reference below or google the images, for example.

The Wildeck Double-Drop Safety Gate is designed and manufactured for maximum safety during pallet handling operations. Mezzanine level personnel can access one pallet bay while a forklift operator at the level below is accessing the other. The Double-Drop Safety Gate is stocked in safety yellow only.

http://www.wildeck.com/double-drop-safety-gate.html
Interconnected sliding gate operation opens and closes inner and outer protective gates simultaneously providing alternating access to each 5' x 5' bay for uninterrupted loading and unloading cycles. Wildeck's Double-Drop Safety Gate mounts easily to any type of flooring. Three-rail design and construction meets OSHA, IBC, BOCA and UBC requirements.
