Here's a thought, though: why not simply "accounts"? It seems a bit awkward and stilted to me, in this context, to talk about the assessment of "items" or "booking entries", when we're clearly taking about the assessment of the accounts of separate businesses (to see whether they are eligible for credit). (See my comment below: they're saying fewer assessments will be necessary because processes within the bank are becoming more efficient.)

Hmm It may be safer then to translate more neutrally: business-related booking entries. It might be both incomes and expenses, but I would not dare to rule out the 'just expenses' meaning. See the following two examples where 'posten' is 'expenses':

Yeah You are right about that. It does however have a feel of cost control attached to it, which the context might confirm. Look at this link!
- 'zakelijke posten' is purely expenses;
- later, it speaks of private and business related 'inkomsten en uitgaven' (not: posten)

Voor alle duidelijkheid: de 'zakelijke posten' die jaarlijks beoordeeld worden door het ratingbureau zijn in ieder geval 'balansposten' en m.i. vrijwel zeker posten die betrekking hebben op specifieke financiële activa. Als het hier nog steeds gaat om de Bijzonder Beheer-activiteiten van de bank uit je vorige vraag, dan lijkt het mij hier te gaan om de kredieten die door deze bank zijn verstrekt aan zakelijke klanten (en die zijn ondergebracht bij de afdeling Bijzonder Beheer). Deze bijzondere kredieten worden onder de 'Financiële activa' op de balans van deze bank weergegeven. Zie ook de term "BB-posten" in de context van je eerdere vraag. Als dit inderdaad zo is, dan zou je i.p.v. 'corporate loan portfolio' wellicht beter kunnen kiezen voor 'special credits portfolio'. Zuiver gezien kun je echter ook gewoon kiezen voor de term 'corporate items' - die even vaag is als de NL term 'zakelijke posten'. Voor de goede verstaander zal dan uit de verdere context moeten blijken dat het hier feitelijk gaat om de zakelijke BB-kredieten (zie "BB-posten) zoals vermeld op de balans.

Thanks Hans. Yes, my first reaction was that it was ‘business expenses’ (although your ‘business-related expenses’ is probably better). Without more context, the words ‘post’ or ‘posten’ are always a little slippery.
