Post doctoral fellowship

Post doctoral fellowship
This scheme is designed to enable outstanding early career researchers to strengthen their experience of research and teaching in a university environment, which will develop their curriculum vitae and improve their prospects of obtaining permanent lecturing posts by the end of the Fellowship. Applicants are expected to be at an early stage of their academic career.

According to VanDale, mandaat (BN) = formatieplaats aan een universiteit

I`ve seen various references to BOF/IWT opvangmandaten
(IWT Agentschap voor Innovatie door Wetenschap en Technologie)
(BOF: bijzondere onderzoeksfondsen)

So I think the term could be Post doctoral fellowship - temporary funding for post-doc students as a stepping stone to a permanent position.

"De commissie zal jaarlijks een deel van het fonds besteden aan één
opvangmandaat. Het betreft financiële overbrugging voor onderzoekers, die
reeds een doctoraat behaald hebben of het zullen behalen vóór 30 juni van het volgende jaar, en die een reële kans maken om in de nabije toekomst een postdoctoraal mandaat of vergelijkbaar (BOF, FWO, IWT, doctorassistent faculteit, UZ…) te behalen."

Interim postdoctoral funding

'Opvang' often means financial support, for example between school and employment or, as in this case, between obtaining a doctorate and getting a postdoctoral fellowship position or between a postdoctoral fellowship and getting a teaching/research position.

See my first reference, bottom of page 91 and also Giovanni's second reference, which explains it quite clearly.

Note from asker:
Thank you for your time Tina!
