English term

Frost Professor

English to Arabic Medical Medical (general)
Hello,

I am not familiar with this term "Frost Professor" is mentioned in the following sentence:

"...the risk factors are clearly changing’, explains Professor John Marshall, Frost Professor of Ophthalmology at the Institute of Ophthalmology in London.

I looked it up and all the meanings did not match this context.

Can someone help, please?

أستاذ كرسي فروست (للطب العيني)ـ

هذه مناصب أستاذية على أسماء علماء سابقين، هنا المنصب باسم العالم ويليام فروست
William Adams Frost (1853-1935), an English ophthalmologist, invented this ‘artificial eye’ to teach medical students about defects in vision. The glass lenses on the wooden stand can be placed to show short-sightedness, long-sightedness, and astigmatisms.

''Frost'' refers to William Adams Frost:

William Adams Frost (1853-1935), an English ophthalmologist, invented this ‘artificial eye’ to teach medical students about defects in vision. The glass lenses on the wooden stand can be placed to show short-sightedness, long-sightedness, and astigmatisms.

Artificial eyes like this one were also used to give students practice using an ophthalmoscope, so they would be able to diagnose eye complaints.

In this context, ''Frost'' is used to refer the subject taught at the university, in this case ''Frost Professor'' would be translated as بروفيسور مادة (مقرر) فروست لطب العيون . It is like, for example, the subject of Shakespeare taught in the departments of English and Language.

When ''Frost'' is followed by ''chair'', like in ''Frost chair of Ophthalmology'', it can be translated as '' مقعد فروست التدريسي لطب العيون''.

possible translation:
Professor John Marshall, Frost Professor of Ophthalmology at the Institute of Ophthalmology
بروفيسور جون مارشال, أستاذ يشغل مقعد فروست التدريسي لطب العيون .......
or
بروفيسور جون مارشال, أستاذ مادة (مقرر) فروست في طب العيون .......
