Proporciona tres fascicles, anomenats internodals, que el comuniquen amb el node d'Aschoff i Tawara: el fascicle posterior o de Thorel, el mitjà o de Wenckebach i l'anterior, proveït d'una branca (fascicle de Bachmann) que de l'aurícula dreta va a l'aurícula esquerra. Consta de cèl·lules P (on s'origina l'impuls elèctric cardíac), cèl·lules de transició (que el transmeten) i cèl·lules o fibres de Purkinje (que el propaguen).
