Discussion

MaryWong (X) (asker) Aug 18, 2009:
宫颈粘膜碘试验 Thank you for your suggestion which serves as a good starting point. However, I beg to differ on your translation of the meaning of Schiller's test on the premise of 2 points: 1) there is an omission in the translation of 'vagina' which is an area of testing in the Schiller's test according to its definition; 2) it is not the mucous membrane (粘膜) that is tested with iodine as it contains glycoprotein. Iodine tests for the glycogen (storage form of glucose) in the squamous epithelium of the cervix and vagina as 95% of cervix diseases occur as squamolus cell carcinoma and the latter also occurs in the upper vagina of old women. Hence if I were to translate the meaning of Schiller's test from the specific to the general sense, the following would be my suggestion, namely: 宫颈阴道鳞状上皮癌碘试验 或 女性生殖器癌碘试验。The other alternative is to translate the term by its phonics into Chinese, that is 希勒试验, which I agree with you but this means nothing to the patient, it is more for the convenience of the interpreter in terms of speed.
