Definition of workbay (WB)

The number of workbays is the basis for calculating workbay utilisation in the Service Report (see formula for workbay utilisation).


Freely accessible, flat working area in the workshop, with (or without) hoist for maintaining a car

Workbays, according to the guidelines, are (dimensions do not include access areas1):

1. "Mechanical workbays":
Mechanical workbay
Tester workbay
Emissions testing workbay3
Wheel alignment bay (KDS)

2. "Body workbays":
Body workbays
Mobile body alignment jig
Alignment workbay (chassis frame)

3. "Paint workbay":
Paintwork preparation bay


1 In the case of so-called "wall workbays", the width is increased by 0.5 m.
2.A length of 8 m is to be earmarked for an emissions testing workbay in a separate hall.

The clearance height of the workbay is at assumed to be 4.8 m

Combined test rigs with planned dimensions of 10.5 m x 5 m.

Area required for outdoor floor space or workshop space: Equivalent area for one parking space. See the building regulations and the installation plans for the exact dimensions.
