English term

(1) Ger. Om Op Te Nemen (2) Opname Loopt

English to Dutch Tech/Engineering Computers: Software mp3 player
Dear colleagues,

I have 2 strings for "(1) Ready to Record" and "(2) Now Recording".

Though I have transated strings for both but those were strings for "(1) Ready To Record SOUND" and "(2) Now Recording SOUND".

Now I need both translations for "(1) Ready to Record VIDEO" and "(2) Now Recording VIDEO". Pls let me know whether I need to revise former translations and let me know the proper answer if necessary. If former translations are common for SOUND and VIDEO (like in English), it's also OK for me. In that case, you don't need to provide me the changed translations.

I'm in toruble with contacting my partners because of Easter holiday. Your prompt help will be really appreciated.

PS. Since those are menu strings in software, it should be translated in shorter way.

Thanks. Peter Kim.

(1) Gereed voor opname (2) Opname loopt

Both strings can be used for sound and for video.

The first one, however, with the abbreviated "Ger.", is hard to understand and quite ugly. An equally short alternative without abbreviation is, as always, highly preferable.

Forgot to mention: usually only the first word gets capitalized in Dutch.

Capitalizing each and every word is not entirely as abhorrent as using abbreviations in software, but it comes close ;-)

1) Opnemen? 2) Opname loopt

1) Suggests that it is ready to record otherwise it would not ask if you would want to record.

2) I prefer this one to what came up just a minute ago: a/h opnemen (aan het opnemen)

Why different translations for video or audio? One should be able to see from the menu if one is in video or audio modus.

neutral Ron Willems : "Opnemen?" suggests that the user should provide some kind of answer, which probably is not the case

I wonder what the user is expected to do on the appearance of "gereed om op te nemen". That should be decisive here.
